We travelled to Chilton disrupted by injury and absences. JW was drafted into goal at the last minute and this move proved to be invaluable in keeping the score to a reasonable level. From the outset, it was clear that Chilton were more skillful on the ball than Shapwick and it was only going to be a matter time before they scored. After 10 minutes a mistake in the Shapwick defence proved costly and Chilton scored leaving JW in goal with no chance.
Shortly afterwards a similar mistake against the wind allowed Chilton to score another goal, to make it 2-0. This was the score until Half Time, when attacking opportunities for Shapwick were rare, but the defence had a very busy afternoon with BD very solid and reliable.
With the wind behind them Shapwick did a lot better in the second half, but still conceded another goal to make it 3-0. Shapwick then rallied well and after a mazey run by CM beating several defenders, a ‘hand ball’ by Chilton brought a penalty to Shapwick. Disappointingly CM’s shot went straight to the goal keeper and the opportunity was missed. However, shortly afterward, CM scored a goal from 15 meters out to make amends. The final scoreline of 3-1 was a good reflection of the respective teams strengths. Shapwick, however, never gave up!
The man of the match was BD for his committed and solid work in defence.
